Photograms are a unique art form that involves the placement of objects onto treated fabric or paper. Exposure to UV light creates a negative image.
In this workshop we will create unique prints on cotton and linen fabric with UV reactive dyes, transparencies and botanicals.
You will learn technical information about the dyes, how to prepare your fabric, mix your dyes, and process your work. We will experiment with exposing multiple layers and mixing our own colors.
We will explore various approaches to this process using different types of objects, substrates, and developing methods. Dress appropriately for potential dye splatter.
You will leave with 4 8x8 dyed cotton and linen panels that can be framed or incorporated into other sewing projects, ie... pillows, quilts, bags.
Materials provided:
protective eyewear
4 8x8 panels to dye
a variety of color dyes
a variety of plants and negatives
gloves
clips and boards
