These photograms utilize silhouette iconography as a medium to examine folklore and ritual as building blocks to our contemporary selves. I am creating new stories, allowing people to see reflected expressions of their own beauty, creativity, and strength.  The work considers the idea that we are seekers and enjoy playfulness.

The use of textiles reflects on the traditions of women’s relationship to fabric as a meaningful part of our human story. This history represents a millennia of universal and culturally specific botanical knowledge and relationships with the natural world, literally and poetically.

I am very interested in submitting my work for consideration to the Mt. Scott Community Center. I feel that my work aligns well with your mission. These pieces have a bit of childhood whimsy and fantasy in them, as well as incorporating natural botanical elements. The use of silhouettes allows for connection with a more diverse audience. The pieces are created with a historic photogram process and speak to the traditions and social commentary of textiles. They are inspired by childhood stories lived, and the beauty of the natural world, filled with mystery and resilience.
